About Polity & Society

Polity & Society exists to make serious ideas about politics and society accessible without making them shallow. It is organized around three questions: what are the enduring themes of human social life (Themes), what ideas and thinkers have tried to make sense of them (Ideas), and what does original, critical writing on these questions look like today (Perspectives).

The site is a work in progress. Political thought and a handful of core concepts are the most developed sections so far, with more thinkers, concepts, frameworks, and original writing being added over time. The aim throughout is the same: theory that stays rigorous, and writing that stays readable.
